Habanero Peppers

The habanero pepper is known to be one of the hottest peppers available in the grocery store. Although some say it is the hottest pepper, there are other varieties that are even hotter. The habanero pepper is about three quarters of an inch to two and ½ inches long and about an inch and a half in diameter and has a slightly conical shape. It starts green and turns orange, although it can be other colors and gets bright red when it’s fully ripe.

The habanero is is most commonly used for salsas and hot sauces, but is also used to spice up many Caribbean and Mexican dishes. The habanero is rated at between 100,000 to 350,000 Scoville units, Scoville units being the scale that rates the heat of hot peppers. Because it is so hot a little of it goes a long way.

So if you’re looking to spice up your world, grab a few habanero peppers and thrown some in your next batch of chili or tacos, and let the sweat on your fore head drip down.
